Our Journey into Needlepoint

For both of us, at its core needlepoint is about creating heirlooms by hand. Whether it is a Christmas stocking for a family member, a belt for a friend’s child graduating from high school, or an ornament to commemorate a family milestone to hang on our tree, creating something by hand as a keepsake has always resonated with both of us.

As young girls, we were taught to needlepoint by our mother, an interior designer and teacher who instilled in us a deep appreciation for the decorative arts. Our maternal grandmother, an entrepreneurial inspiration, also played a significant role in shaping our journey. Granny Fraser was the first female professor at Centenary College and was a trailblazer in the early 20th century. She later married and settled with her family in Mansfield, Louisiana where she owned and operated a local flower shop and wedding gift registry. She boldly converted the downstairs formal parlors of her antebellum-style home into her gift shop and floral studio, where she happily lived and worked well into her early 80s.

We spent our summers working in her shop, helping design flower arrangements and tablescape displays, assisting her with inventory, and learning the art of gift wrapping. We were inspired by the freedom of her creative expression and the gracious way she welcomed everyone into her shop.

At Wipstitch, we've seamlessly woven these influences together to create contemporary, whimsical hand-painted needlepoint canvases and lifestyle accessories. Our stitching studio and showroom, affectionately known as "The Attic," is a lively and welcoming space where both seasoned and new stitchers can gather, stitch, and learn.

Who are the Wipsisters?

We’re Elizabeth and Rebecca, sisters born one year apart. Texas is our home, and here our lives revolve around our families and our friends. We grew up in Dallas, attended The University of Texas together (Hook ‘em!), and even had a double wedding. Bringing people together was and is a constant occurrence for us, and stitching beautiful mementoes for the people we love is just part of who we are. Between us, we’ve needlepointed more than 16 stockings (including one prize winner each at the State Fair of Texas), and literally hundreds of other projects, most of which we give away. Our skill sets are complementary. Elizabeth is the creative, the designer with a background in branding and marketing. Rebecca is the fundraiser and philanthropist with a knack for community-building. Together, we have blended our talents into Wipstitch with the tight sister bond we bring to everything we do.

A Work In Progress

The name Wipstitch is a play on the acronym for Work in Progress (WIP), the term a stitcher commonly uses to refer to their current needlepoint project. Turns out the name was a perfect fit as we have grown into more than just a canvas design business. We have four unique offerings. Our bread and butter are our hand-painted needlepoint canvas designs. Next, our bag collection, which began as a project accessory to the canvases but is rapidly being built out into a much broader line of personal organizational tools. We’ve also developed a new line of stitched ornaments, hand-stitched and hand-finished, and ready to purchase for those who value the artistry of beautiful heirloom needlepoint. And finally, and maybe dearest to our hearts, is our beautiful stitching studio and showroom, The Attic, where we host classes and events for the growing Dallas needlepoint community.
